“Would you please teach a customer service class, and teach people how to treat others,” said one of my newest clients just the other day. It’s probably the best compliment I’ve gotten professionally. I laughed and politely said, “No, I love what I do.”
I’m Bethene and here’s my story: I was, married, but essentially raising my children as a single mother. I had no insurance, I had nothing. People would tell me, you’re not worth it, you’ll never be anything, you won’t make it, but I went to business school anyway.
My children got sick, and they said if you can’t attend school, we’re cutting off financial aid. So, I quit and got a job in a nursing home. Then worked up to helping developmentally disabled adults, finally I returned to business school. When I landed my first job in insurance.
Graduating business school was the best feeling ever. Everyone has struggles but with God’s grace and hard work I did it. Since 1997 I’ve had almost every role in insurance, from sales to management. I chose to go back to customer service because I love solving problems for people in a way that makes them feel valued.
That’s when I found the opportunity to help my favorite group of people navigate the most challenging of all insurance—individual health (including Medicaid & Medicare).
I’d love to say, I’m the best person to help you, but the truth is I might not be. If I can’t help I’ll find someone who can. If I had a room full of potential clients, I’d tell them thank you for being here. Thank you for trusting me to help you. I’m honored to advocate for you.
